GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH MEETING
JULY 7, 2007
recorded by Joy Stalnaker
Next Genealogical Research Meeting: Saturday, July 12, 2008
Place:  Central WV Genealogy and History Library at Horner, WV
Location of Stalnaker Family Association Archives

About 15 persons gathered on Saturday, July 7, 2007, at the Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants Library in Horner, WV, to research Stalnaker Family genealogy.  Several in the group especially enjoyed going through the archives and finding such treasures as a photograph of the Capt. Samuel Stalnaker log home as it looked before being destroyed by a hurricane about 30 years ago.

About 2:30, the several persons went on a tour to the grave of Samuel Stalnaker, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Truby Stalnaker, who was married to Deborah Radcliff.  The cemetery, located on what is now the C.D. Cole property at Jane Lew, is the finaly resting place of a few members of the Stalnaker family.  However, only two graves, that of Samuel and one of a girl named Katherine Stalnaker (further identification unknown), are marked with readable markers.  The sun was very hot that afternoon but all on the tour agreed that it was worth it. The consensus for the day was that a research day should be included in plans for all future reunions.

Getting to the cemetery required fording a creek.  Everyone hitched a ride in the back of Bill Stalnaker's pickup.  He made two trips across the creek to get everyone on the same side. Climbing the hill to the cemetery.  Cemetery is about 20 feet above the tree in the distance.

The original Samuel Stalnaker marker (now broken) and the "new" marker for him placed in May 2000 by Daril and Joy Stalnaker.
